Surabaya (17/03) On March 17th, 2021, became a milestone in the history of the Indonesian nation because for the first time a Diesel Electric submarine made by the local built was officially handed over from the national shipyard to the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, which is received directly by the Minister of Defense, Mr. Prabowo Subianto. The Alugoro-405 is the first submarine national build at the PT PAL Indonesia (Persero). Working activities such as Joint Section, Test, and Trials (Setting to Work, Hydro Test, Harbor Acceptance Test (HAT), Sea Acceptance Tests including Pre-SAT to the preparation of a working standard by PT PAL Indonesia (Persero).
KRI Alugoro-405 is type Diesel Electric Submarine U209 (Nagapasa Class). It has a length of 61.3 meters, a speed of up to 21 knots underwater, capable of carrying 40 crew with a cruising capability of up to 50 days, and designing for a lifetime up to 30 years.
The Alugoro-405 is the first submarine national’s work at the PT PAL Indonesia (Persero). The Director of PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) said that Alugoro Submarine construction’s success was proof with a complete Alugoro-405 submarine project on this pandemic situation by still implementing strict health protocols. This development has also made Indonesia the only country in the Southeast Asia region capable of building submarines.
Before the delivery and inauguration of the KRI Alugoro-40, It went through various trials, such as the Harbor Acceptance Test (HAT), to undergo 53 items of the Sea Acceptance Test (SAT). The submarine was successfully built at the PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) Submarine Facility. In working on the joint section, PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) completed the title with zero defects.
Mr. Prabowo Subianto, as The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, said that the delivery of the Alugoro submarine was a milestone in Indonesia’s defense history because for the first time Indonesia through the national shipyard PT PAL Indonesia (Persero), succeeded in participating in the production of submarines. He expects that in the next 5 years, PT PAL Indonesia (Persero) will produce its submarines from design to production.
The modernization of the Indonesian National Armed Force’s primary weapon system (Alutsista) is for strengthening Indonesian National Armed Forces’ current uncertain geopolitical conditions. Mr. Prabowo as the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, also said that the Indonesian nation loves peace but loves independence more. The Ministry of Defense will strive for the Indonesian National Armed Forces defense equipment through national domestic industrial cooperation.
The history of the ship christening of KRI Alugoro – 405
The ship naming and launching of the Diesel Electric Submarine U209 / 1400 (KSDE U209 Chang Bogo Class) was later given the ship christening Alugoro. Based on the puppet story, Alugoro was a mace-shaped weapon owned by Prabu Baladewa. He was a puppet character who knew to be fair, firm, and honest. Balarama’s Alugoro weapon was a gift from Batara Brama, a Balarama teacher who teaches various kinds of knowledge. Batara Brahma gave Balarama this weapon after he was declared to have graduated from studying, where this weapon has mighty destructive power. Alugoro’s weapon is Mace-shaped with both pointed ends

Alugoro submarine would be able to carry out its duties and functions as a weapon that has large and devastating power and never loses in every war.
